Before the West Bengal Board was established matters of Senior Education in the state were managed by The Calcutta University. The Board of Secondary Education was established in 1951. The Board was subsequently renamed as West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) in 1964. The basic tasks undertaken by the Board are to regulate, control and develop secondary education of the State and to conduct the School Final Examination.

In 1951 the West Bengal Board started its journey with 1270 high schools taken over from Calcutta University.  Presently the Board is handling around 10238 numbers of schools.

West Bengal H.S Exam Routine 2016

At present the West Bengal Board conducts Class X Examination and Class XII Examinations as its primary examination every year.

The Exams are conducted in the month of March by the Board. 

The WBBSE Time Table for the Class XII exams 2016 will be released few months prior to the exam to allow students time for preparation.
