Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) was established in 1973. The Board then focused the next three years in framing Rules and Regulations, Curricula and Syllabi for its smooth and active conduct in the field of State education. On 1st January, 1976, the Board officially started conducting and monitoring all the academic functions of the schools affiliated with it.

With the abolition of old courses, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education now conducts two major Public Examinations --- Madhyamik Pariksha (Secondary Examination) and Higher Secondary (+2) [ both General and Vocational courses ] Examination since 1981.
