The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) was set up in 1956 in New Delhi. This institution is a private one which does not have any interference from the government. It is an all India, but not a government sponsored board, which caters to the educational needs of the students throughout India. This ICSE board gives freedom to experiment with new ideas and practices to schools and students.
The ISC examination is a board examination for those completing 12th class. The candidates must have compulsorily English as one of their subjects and have an option of choosing three, four or five more subjects. The ICSE board conducts exams only in English as a medium of instruction, except the languages. A certificate is awarded to the students passing this examination which is mandatory for pursuing higher education. The exams are held in the month of February every year.
