Formerly known as Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, Central University of Kashmir was established in 2009. The mission of Central University of Kashmir is to promote education, culture, economic and social advancement of the state. Prof. Abdul Wahid is the present Vice Chancellor of Central University of Kashmir.

Central University of Kashmir offers graduate and post graduate courses in Information Technology, English, Convergent Journalism, Economics, Mathematics, Law, Urdu, Tourism Management and Education. Hostel, Medical Aid, Computer Center and Library all form an integral part of the curriculum taught.
